Wayne M. Kidwell American Legion Post 184
Purpose
To enhance the well-being of America's veterans, their families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness. The American Legion's vision statement is "The American Legion: Veterans Strengthening America."
Honor our Fallen
We honor those who have gone before.
Community Support
We seek to strengthen the Town of Herndon and surrounding areas.
Assisting Veterans
We are veterans helping veterans.
What We Do
Monthly Meetings: We meet every 3rd Wednesday of the Month to gather as veterans for comradeship and organize ways to meet our mission. We welcome all veterans to our meetings, so feel free to visit us!
Avenue of Flags: Every Veteran's Day and Memorial Day we raise over 60 casket flags in honor of fallen Herndon Veterans. Due to COVID, we will use smaller flags to represent our fallen veterans and not our normal full size flags.
Memorial Day Poppy Fundraising for Veterans Support: Every Memorial Day we hand out the long-time symbol of fallen soldiers, the Poppy Flower, and raise funds for veterans.
Herndon-Reston Junior ROTC Program Support: In coordination with the Navy Junior ROTC Program at Herndon High School and South Lakes High School Army JROTC, we honor excellence through American Legion Awards.
Support Local Scouts: We are proud to be the Chartering Organization for our local Scout Troop 1570. We support them in their activities and Eagle Projects.
Retiring American Flags with Honor: Do you have a used American Flag that needs to be retired? Bring it by the Herndon Moose Lodge and put it in the drop box located out front. We collect used flags and perform a Flag Retirement Ceremony several times a year.
